"Hervey"-a very lucky black cat! Marjorie Hervey has told us that it is very difficult to adopt out black cats. In defence of black cats, I hope this article will change the mindset of those who fear them because of all the old images associated with bad luck. Four years ago we adopted "Hervey" from Marjorie at the Hervey Foundation. In those four years, Hervey has only bestowed good luck upon our household. That luck is in the form of the most loving pet anyone could wish for. She walks in front of us all the time and there are no negative consequences! On Halloween, she does not turn into the arch-backed hissing figure you see associated with October 31. Instead she greets all the little children that come to our door and either licks them or climbs on their backs to purr in their ears. In the summer she runs out to introduce herself to any jogger, mother pushing a stroller or salesman that passes by our home. She could be the mascot for Welcome Wagon!
So go ahead and adopt a black cat. Prove the old wives' tales
wrong. We have.
